Indianapolis Colts sign Luck to richest deal in NFL history

CHICAGO – Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck signed a six-year contract extension through the 2021 season for $140 million, the richest contract in NFL history, Colts owner Jim Irsay said Wednesday.

Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts has signed a six-year contract extension through the 2021 season for $140 million

The biggest prior deal in NFL history saw Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers ink a five-year contract for $110 million in 2013.

“Andrew has signed through 2021,” Irsay tweeted. “$140 Million over 6 Years… Biggest Contract in NFL History… Congrats to #12!!!”

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson signed a four-year deal last year worth $87.6 million that featured $60 million guaranteed, while Luck reportedly will have $87 million guaranteed, or $22 million more assured than the old marks to Eli Manning of the New York Giants and fellow quarterback Philip Rivers of San Diego.

“I am thrilled and excited to continue with this great organization,” Luck said in a statement. “I am thankful to the Irsay family and Mr. Irsay for providing me with this great opportunity and the trust that they’ve shown in me. I can’t wait for this season to start.”

Luck had been set to make $16.1 million in the final year of his rookie deal, a team option the Colts picked up in March.

“This is an exciting day for the organization and Colts fans around the globe,” Irsay said. “Andrew is the consummate professional, possesses extraordinary talent and is our leader on and off the field. When you consider what this team has accomplished in four seasons with Andrew under center, you cannot help but be thrilled about the future.”

The Colts parted ways with Peyton Manning, who led Indy to a Super Bowl crown, to set the stage for Luck to be taken first overall in the 2012 NFL Draft. Luck guided the Colts to the playoffs in his first three NFL seasons. His 14,838 passing yards are the most of any NFL quarterback in his first four seasons.

But Luck, 26, struggled last season, making 13 turnovers and suffering a rib injury and lascerated kidney as well as shoulder and abdominal injuries.

  3. Love how Polygon has got the back of small develope1 like TinyBuild. I’m sure nobody else is trying to use them as a attack dog or anything. I’m sure they also hate all the publicity as well. I don’t know about you but I love it when big companies try to force other companies into minimum prices. You know it was also fantastic getting my $150 in store credit from Amazon via Apple for price fixing. The co1umer shouldn’t care about PC game prices raising to $60 because well we already pay that on Co1oles. I just love how prices are the same for a digital copy of a product that doesn’t have a cost of manufacturing or shipping. It’s all good lets hate on G2A and after that we can scream about steam again and how they force publishe1 into low sale prices. To bad that initial Xbox idea went bust, we could have cut off used games on Co1oles as well. Dang those co1ume1 and their crazy idea of fair use.
